    Uber Ridesharing

Intact Insurance to offer ridesharing coverage to Uber, which provides coverage for all drivers and passengers who use Uber ridesharing services.

We are offering products that provide protection for all Albertans – both drivers and passengers – using ridesharing services. With the growing popularity of the sharing and on-demand economy, we’re excited to offer innovative solutions that meet consumer’s changing needs.

How are drivers and passengers protected?

Intact Insurance provides ridesharing insurance coverage from the moment a driver accepts a ride request to the time passengers exit the vehicle. This coverage automatically applies to all Uber drivers (regardless of their personal auto insurance company) and passengers.

For Intact Insurance, Novex and belairdirect customers, we also offer additional coverage that will protect you when using your vehicle for personal use and when you’re logged into your Uber mobile app and available to accept a ride request but have yet to do so. This coverage can be added to your existing personal auto policy simply by contacting your broker or insurance provider. It requires no additional paperwork, and you will see only a small increase in your premium.

We understand that it may take some time for other personal auto insurance companies to develop products for ridesharing. In the interest of protecting all Uber drivers, the ridesharing policy will also provide back-up coverage for incidents that occur when a driver is logged into the app and available to accept a ride request and their claim is denied by their insurance company due to their participation in ridesharing with Uber.

    What should drivers do next?

All Uber drivers must contact their broker or insurance provider to advise them that they are participating in ridesharing activity.

If you are an Uber driver, or are considering becoming one talk to your broker or insurance provider directly today to learn more.
