    What is my Driving Discount?
    my Driving Discount is the Intact insurance program that offers you a personalized discount based on your driving habits (braking, acceleration, and time of day the vehicle is used, all in relation to the total number of kilometres driven). The better your driving habits, the more you could save!

    What’s in it for me?
    You could save up to 25% on your car insurance premium once you complete your assessment period, but you’ll also receive valuable information about your driving habits.

    Is there any cost to enroll?
    No. There is no charge for enrolling in the my Driving Discount program.

    Will my premium go up because of my driving habits?
    No, your premium will not increase as a result of the data used to establish your potential savings. On the contrary, you automatically receive a 5% enrollment discount off your premium, and at the end of the 180-day assessment period you could get a total discount of up to 25%, depending on your driving habits.

    How do I sign up?
    If you already have an automobile insurance policy with us, you can enroll in the my Driving Discount program with your broker (subject to meeting the eligibility criteria). If you are looking to insure your vehicle with Intact Insurance and sign up for the my Driving Discount, you can fill out an online quote on our website or contact your broker.

    What type of smartphone do I need to have?
    To be eligible for the my Driving Discount program, you must have an iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 or a subsequent model equipped with version 8.2 (or later) of the IOS operating system or a smartphone equipped with version 4.3 (or later) of the Android operation system. You also need to have a data plan with your cellular service provider in order to collect and transfer the driving data.

    Don’t have a compatible smartphone? We also offer the my Driving Discount program using a device you can plug into your car’s OBD (On-Board Diagnostics system) port. Contact your broker for more details.

    What happens after I sign up?
    We will send you an email containing a link to download the app onto your smartphone and all the information you need to log in to the app. This information will be sent to you at the email address associated with your insurance policy. Once installed and set up, simply drive as usual. You can view your driving profile and potential discount in the app.

    How long will my discount apply?
    Your 5% enrollment discount applies as soon as you join the my Driving Discount program. Once the assessment period is completed (after 180 days), it will be replaced, if applicable, by the my Driving Discount for the remainder of your insurance policy term if the my Driving Discount is equal to or greater than the enrollment discount. The my Driving Discount is not static and is subject to change upon each renewal of your policy, as of the second renewal following your enrollment in the program.

    If the enrollment discount is greater than the my Driving Discount, the enrollment discount will continue to apply until the end of your current policy term. At your next policy renewal, you will no longer be eligible to receive an enrollment discount or the my Driving Discount.

    Can I change my mind and opt out of the program? If so, will my insurance policy be cancelled?
    This program is voluntary. You may opt out at any time during the assessment period and your insurance policy will NOT be cancelled. However, as of the date you withdrawal, you will no longer be eligible for the discounts available within the my Driving Discount program.

    Can I register all my cars in the my Driving Discount program?
    Yes. A principal driver can register all cars for which he or she is identi ed in the policy as the principal driver, as long as the eligibility conditions are met. You’ll only need to install and use the mobile application, and we’ll apply the discount for all other eligible cars that appear on the policy with you as the principal driver.

    How long is my assessment period?
    Your assessment period is 180 days from when you use the application and start driving. If the assessment period is not completed prior to when your renewal is issued, then the renewal will be issued with your enrollment discount. The personalized discount to which you may be eligible will be applied once the assessment period is completed. Please consult the “How long will my discount apply?” section for more details.

    Is there a minimum number of kilometres I must drive?
    In order to be eligible for a potential discount, you must drive a minimum of 1,000 km during your assessment period as the driver of an eligible vehicle.

    What trips will the app record?
    During your assessment period, the app will record all trips where it believes you may be driving a car. You will have go into the app and con rm whether you were the driver or not and your mode of transportation, if need be. If you do not do so, the app will consider you the driver by default after 7 days. Please note that your selection is final. Once your assessment period is completed, the app will no longer record any trip.

    Which trips do I need to confirm as a driver?
    You will need to con rm that you were the driver for all trips where you were driving a car, whether it’s your car or not. If you were driving a motorcycle, a recreational vehicle, or any other vehicle that isn’t a car, you need to confirm that you were not the driver and confirm your mode of transportation. Please note that your selection is final.

    Can I delete the app when I’m done?
    Once you receive your con rmation email that you’ve completed the program, the app will no longer record any trip data. You can review the information for the past trips for which you were tagged as the driver. However, you will no longer be able to modify your selection for any trips. You may delete the app from your smartphone as well.

    What are the steps to begin the program?
    After you sign up, you will need to download the mobile application onto your smartphone. Your login details will be sent to you at the email address associated with your insurance policy. Once logged in, just start driving. Your driving data is automatically recorded and the app will determine your potential discount.

    What are the key requirements for the app to work?

    • You must have a compatible smartphone.
    • Location services in your app settings and phone settings must be turned on to record trips.
    • The Movements and form option in the settings of your Apple phone must be enabled to record your driving data.
    • You must connect through cellular data to have your driving data uploaded so we can calculate your score and update your potential discount. Your trips will always be saved whether or not you are connected.
    • To ensure your driving data is collected, make sure your phone is charged.
    • Once a trip has been recorded, confirm whether or not you were the driver, as the app will consider you the driver by default after 7 days. This will allow you to see its score if you were the driver. Please note that you cannot modify your selection afterwards.

    What if I have to change phones?
    If you need to change phones after you have already started your assessment period, you can just download the app on your new phone and continue your assessment from where you left off. You simply need to login using the same username and password you already have.

    What if I don’t see any data or my results haven’t changed in my dashboard?
    Make sure Location service is turned on in your app settings and that this service and the option Movements and form (applicable to Apple phones only) are enabled in the phone settings. It is mandatory for your trips to be recorded and displayed on the app’s dashboard. Should the issue persist, please contact us for more information.

    Does the app use battery power?
    Yes it does and this varies from one phone to another. This is why it’s important to always keep your phone charged, as you will not be able to record any trips without battery power.

    Does the app use my cellular or Wi-Fi data?
    Yes. Downloading the app will use your cellular and/or wireless data and the app itself will use your cellular data. The app transfers data to calculate your score and potential discount. While roaming, unless your data is turned off on your smartphone, data will continue to be transferred.

    The app did not record my trip or the beginning of trips. What should I do?
    To start recording data, the application must determine that you are in movement, which can take several seconds. For this reason, it is possible that the beginning of trips is not registered.

    Moreover, it may occasionally happen that the app does not record a trip because of interference with the phone’s GPS, or in areas with low cellular cell phone signal. If you notice that this is happening regularly, please contact us.

    What factors are taken into consideration when calculating my score and discount?
    Following completion of the assessment period, your enrollment discount may be replaced by a personalized final discount (the my Driving Discount) that takes into account:

    1. based on a minimum of 1,000 kilometres driven as the driver of the vehicle:
      a. time of day the vehicle is driven;
      b. hard braking events;
      c. rapid acceleration events; and
    2. information in your insurance file you have provided us with (e.g., postal code, age).

    These factors are used to calculate a ratio in relation to the total number of kilometres driven.

    The my Driving Discount is not static and is subject to change upon each renewal of your policy, as of the second renewal following your enrollment in the program.

    Hard Braking
    Hard braking increases the risk of being involved in an accident. The system therefore determines a risk factor relative to hard braking by calculating the ratio of hard braking on the total km driven. A braking is considered as hard when a movement between two geographic positions recorded by the GPS and the linear acceleration measured by the accelerometer correspond to rapid speed reduction.

    Rapid Acceleration
    Rapid acceleration increases the risk of being involved in an accident. The system therefore determines a risk factor relative to rapid accelerations by calculating the ratio of rapid acceleration on the total km driven. An acceleration is considered rapid when a movement between two geographic positions recorded by the GPS and the linear acceleration measured by the accelerometer correspond to rapid speed acceleration.

    Time of day
    Driving at night (between 12 a.m. and 4 a.m.) increases the risk of being involved in an accident. Many elements, such as reduced visibility and fatigue, make this time of day the riskiest. The system therefore uses the times of day that you’re driving to determine your personalized night-time driving factor. The less the vehicle is used at night, the more you could save.

    When are my score and potential discount updated?
    After each trip, if you have cellular data, both your score and potential discount are updated right after you con rm your status as the driver for that trip. You have 7 days to identify if you were the driver of the vehicle or not. If you were not, you must also confirm your mode of transportation. If you do not tag a trip within 7 days of the end of that trip, the application will automatically tag you as the driver of the vehicle and the score and potential discount will be updated.

    How can I get the maximum discount?
    The better you drive the more you could save. Try to avoid rapid acceleration and hard braking. But your safety must always come first: if you have to accelerate or brake suddenly to avoid an accident, don’t hesitate to do so! Also, the times of day when the vehicle is used affect your discount, so the less driving is done during high- risk periods, the more you could save.

    If I have to brake hard to avoid an accident, will that reduce my discount?
    We look for a driver’s usual behaviour and the frequency of events like hard braking. We know that even the best drivers sometimes need to stop suddenly. One or two instances of hard braking will not necessarily reduce your potential discount. The most important thing is to keep you and your passengers safe. So, if you need to hit the brakes to avoid an accident, don’t think twice!

    I usually drive 110 km/h on the highway. Will I be penalized?
    Speed is not taken into consideration when calculating your potential discount. However, with speeding, it is more likely that you will have hard braking events and rapid acceleration. These two factors (as well as the times of day when the vehicle is driven) are taken into consideration when calculating your final discount.

    How can I save more?
    With Intact Insurance, there are many ways to save, such as Synchro Insurance and the multi-vehicle discount. Call your broker to find out which discounts you may qualify for.

    Who is eligible to receive the my Driving Discount?
    A principal driver who has enrolled in the program may obtain this discount for all eligible cars for which he or she is the principal driver.

    Can I restart the program if I don’t like my nal discount?
    No. You cannot restart the program because all of the driving information has already been gathered.

    Once the final discount is generated by the accumulated driving data, is it retroactive?
    No. If applicable, the discount based on driving activity will be applied after the completion of the assessment period, which consists of 180 days of collecting data.

    What other coverage can I get from Intact Insurance?
    Combine your home and auto insurance to get additional protection and take advantage of premium discounts. Ask an insurance broker to recommend the policy that best suits your needs.

    How is my driving data protected?
    You have our firm commitment in the form of our Privacy Promise. We use care and strict security safeguards when storing or destroying your personal information in order to prevent any unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification, disposal or similar risks. In the event that we transfer personal information to a third party in Canada or across borders, we contractually require that third party to protect your personal information in a manner consistent with our Privacy Promise and with legislation in their jurisdiction.

    How will the driving data be used?
    The driving data will be used to determine the my Driving Discount you may be eligible to receive after the assessment period ends. We may also analyze the collected data to ensure that the information in your insurance le is consistent with the driving data you provided us with (e.g. number of kilometres driven, etc.) and adjust your premium accordingly. The driving data will not be used to cancel your policy during your current policy term nor to refuse or decline to renew your policy for the next renewal term.     How long will you keep my information?
    As a rule, we keep your information for as long as it is reasonable for us to do so, either for business or legal purposes.

    Will Intact Insurance share my information with third parties?
    Intact Insurance and our service provider will only use or share your information for purposes consistent with the my Driving Discount program, unless disclosure is required by law, and will never sell your information to third parties.

    Does my broker have access to my detailed driving data?
    No. Your broker will not have access to your my Driving Discount data. Only the potential discount information will be available for your broker

    What should I do if there is an error in the driving data?
    Contact us if there is an error in the driving data or if you have technical problems.
