Uber Eats

Uber operates a technology platform that allows users to obtain and pay for on-demand transportation and logistics services provided by an independent contracted driver, through an application for use on mobile devices. Founded in 2009, it is one of the fastest growing companies in history. Uber Eats is their on-demand food delivery platform that allows for customers to order food from local restaurants and have it delivered to their location. The Uber Eats app connects participating drivers with local participating restaurants and customers via the Uber Eats mobile application. Participating drivers are able to use their vehicle to conduct deliveries and earn an extra income with a flexible work schedule.

How are drivers protected?

Uber Eats has a commercial insurance policy in place with Intact Insurance that provides coverage from the moment drivers make themselves available to accept a food delivery request, to the moment the food is dropped off. This coverage automatically applies to all Uber Eats drivers (regardless of their personal auto insurance provider).

When Uber Eats drivers are using their vehicle for personal use, Intact and Novex customers are protected as usual under their personal auto insurance policy at no additional cost.

What should drivers do next?

All Uber Eats drivers must contact their broker or insurance provider to advise that they are participating in Peer-to-Peer (P2P) delivery activity.

If you are an Uber Eats driver or are considering becoming one, talk to your broker or insurance provider directly, to learn more.
