How it Works
my Driving Discount could reward you with a personalized discount by assessing the time of day that you drive, along with your acceleration and braking, based on the kilometres driven.
Hard braking increases the risk of being involved in an accident. The program therefore calculates the ratio of hard braking events on total km driven to determine your personalized hard braking factor. A hard braking event is defined as any decrease of speed of 12 km/h or more in 1 second.
Rapid accelerations increase the risk of being involved in an accident. The program therefore calculates the ratio of rapid acceleration events on total km driven to determine your personalized rapid acceleration factor. A rapid acceleration is defined as any increase of speed of 12 km/h or more in 1 second.
Time of day
Driving at night (between 12 a.m. and 4 a.m.) increases the risk of being involved in an accident. Many elements, such as reduced visibility and fatigue, make this time of day the riskiest. The program therefore evaluates the time of day that you’re driving to determine your personalized high-risk period factor. The less you drive at night, the more you could save.
We look for the frequency of events and regular driving behaviours. We know that even the best drivers have to brake hard occasionally. So it doesn’t necessarily mean that if you brake hard once, your discount will be reduced. The most important thing is your safety. If you need to hard brake to avoid an accident, make sure you do!
Once you've plugged in the device and driven at least 30 days, your potential discount update will become available to you on your my Driving Discount website.
The my Driving Discount device works throughout Canada and the United States. You’ll be able to access all your driving data by logging into the my Driving Discount website.
Accidents are not taken into consideration when calculating your potential personalized discount. However, this may nevertheless have an impact on your insurance premium as per our standard practices. If you have questions about your policy or premium, please contact your broker.
Speeding is not taken into consideration when calculating your personalized discount. However, speeding may cause you to hard brake and rapid accelerate. These 2 factors (along with the time of day you drive) are taken into consideration when calculating your potential discount.
Please call our Customer Care team at 1 855 251 6977 and advise them that the vehicle is being put in storage.
As a general rule, your information will be stored as long as it is reasonable to do so for a legal or business purpose.
Your driving data is updated every time you drive your car. Your potential discount will be updated on your my Driving Discount website on a weekly basis (every Monday).
If you have any technical issues with your device or notice an error in the driving data displayed on your my Driving Discount website, simply call us at:

The device needs to stay connected to your car at all times. If we do not receive any data from your car for 30 days or more, you may be removed from the my Driving Discount program and no longer eligible for any further discounts. We suggest you contact your broker, if you would like to remove the device from your car.
The my Driving Discount device has a blinking light that is activated once you’ve started your car. If you don't see it, unplug the device, review the installation details, then plug it back in.
Don’t worry. If your device stops working please contact us at 1 855 251 6977 and we’ll send you a new one.
If the vehicle is in a service shop, the device can be temporarily removed, but should be plugged back in as soon as service is completed. If it will be removed for more than 30 days, please contact your broker.

You must install the device and drive your vehicle in order to begin your assessment period.
If you do not install the device within 30 days of enrolment you may be removed from the program and no longer eligible for any discounts.
In order to assess your driving habits, the my Driving Discount device uses GPS technology that tracks your location.
At the end of your assessment period, we will send you a pre-paid envelope. Simply insert the device into the package and return it to us in the mail.
